Plantation is known for its mature trees, its planned neighborhoods and its location in the middle of Broward County. It was laid out from the start with minimum lot sizes and separate residential, commercial and industrial areas, and that early planning still shapes how the city feels today.
This guide walks through Plantation's neighborhoods, the homes you will find in each, the current market and the questions buyers ask most. It also lists homes Leslie has sold in Plantation.
Plantation at a glance
Plantation was incorporated on April 30, 1953. Its story starts with Frederick Peters, who bought about 10,000 acres along State Road 7 in the 1930s and hired architect Russell Pancoast to create a master plan. The plan set minimum lot sizes and even an ordinance meant to keep neighboring homes from looking alike.
The city sits west of Fort Lauderdale, with I-595 along its southern edge, Florida's Turnpike running through the east side, and Broward Boulevard, Sunrise Boulevard and University Drive as major routes. That puts downtown Fort Lauderdale and the airport within easy reach of most neighborhoods.
Neighborhoods and home types
Plantation Acres
In the western part of the city, Plantation Acres is an equestrian-friendly area with lots that are often an acre or larger, riding paths and a rural feel. The city's Plantation Equestrian Center is nearby. Homes range from older ranch houses to large custom estates.
Central Plantation
The older heart of the city has single-family neighborhoods with wide lots, mature tree canopy and homes built from the 1950s onward. Many have been renovated or expanded, and the established landscaping is a big part of their appeal.
Condos and townhomes
Condominium and townhome communities are spread along the main corridors and around the city's commercial areas. They make up a large share of listings and offer lower-maintenance options closer to shopping and offices.
Parks and things to do
Plantation runs an extensive park system, including Plantation Heritage Park and Plantation Central Park, plus golf at Jacaranda and the city's own Plantation Preserve course. Westfield Broward on Broward Boulevard and the shopping along University Drive and Pine Island Road cover most everyday errands.
