Cooper City, FL Real Estate & Neighborhood Guide

Cooper City is one of the smaller cities in Broward County, and that is a large part of its appeal. Its motto is "Someplace Special," and the city has kept a quiet, mostly residential character while the cities around it have grown much larger. Most homes are single-family houses on established streets, with parks and schools woven through the neighborhoods.

This guide explains what Cooper City is like, what the housing market looks like today, and what buyers usually want to know. It also lists homes Leslie has sold in Cooper City.

Cooper City at a glance

Cooper City was incorporated on June 20, 1959, and is named for its founder, Morris Cooper, who bought the land when it was orange groves and cattle pasture. It sits in southwest Broward County between Davie and Pembroke Pines. With roughly 35,000 residents, it is a fraction of the size of its neighbors.

Stirling Road, Sheridan Street and Griffin Road are the main east-west routes, and Florida's Turnpike and I-75 are both a short drive away, which connects the city to Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood and Miami-Dade.

Neighborhoods and home types

Cooper City's housing is predominantly single-family. Many neighborhoods date from the 1970s through the 1990s, with one- and two-story homes, pools and fenced yards. Newer communities in the western part of the city add two-story homes with modern layouts, and there is a smaller supply of townhomes and villas. Condominiums are rare compared with most of Broward.

Because the city is small and largely built out, inventory is limited. Well-prepared homes in popular neighborhoods can draw strong interest, so buyers benefit from having financing ready and acting quickly.

Parks and things to do

Brian Piccolo Sports Park and Velodrome, a 175-acre Broward County park, has soccer and cricket fields, courts and the only velodrome in Florida, a track where cyclists train and race. The city also runs neighborhood parks, sports programs and community events through the year. Shopping and dining are concentrated along Stirling Road and nearby Pines Boulevard.

Schools

Public schools in Cooper City are part of Broward County Public Schools. Cooper City High School and Pioneer Middle School are located in the city, along with several elementary schools. Attendance boundaries can change, so confirm the zoned schools for any address directly with the district.
